Dr. Le was one of the infamous boat people who left Vietnam en mass after the fall of Saigon in 1975. His young life witnessed the atrocity of war, of suffering, and the resiliency of the human spirit that helped shape him as a compassionate person and physician. His family drifted through Guam, California, Michigan, and then Texas looking for a new place to call home. He now considers Houston to be his hometown. He spent his elementary school years in Vietnam and San Diego California. He graduated from Sharpstown High School after taking a detour in Detroit, Michigan for middle school.

Linda Le Hoang, coming to America in her early teens, settled in Dallas, Texas. After receiving her business degree from Baylor University, she joined in her family’s jewelry business. Her marriage to Dr. Le in 1994 brought perfect union to her idealism as she was inspired by his humanity and spirituality. Together, they explore science, arts, spirituality and meditation in order to make life more meaningful and sensible. Their ultimate goal is to make their lives useful to mankind, to society, and to the future.

Dr. Le’s motto is: Ask not what life can do for me but what I can do for life. They organized a “World Peace Day” in April 2007 bringing together more than 100 monks of different Asian ethnic backgrounds, including Thai, Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese; and raised more than $6500 to feed the hungry by donated to the Houston Food Bank.

Dr. and Mrs. Le have three children: Sean, age 13, Celine, 9 and Andrew, 6; for whom they set good example for a life journey of peace. For lighting the way for social change and brightening the lives of others, and their humanitarian efforts, compassion, dedication and generosity to the community, the Asian American Family Services honored Mrs. Linda and Dr. Minh Huy Le with its 2008 Golden Lantern Award.
