Projects in Hue, Vietnam

This spring the people of Vietnam welcome the only mystical creature in the Asian zodiac…the Dragon; a creature of power and legend.  This ultimate auspicious symbol signifies luck, success, and happiness to the Vietnamese people.  With this in mind, Le Hoang Foundation strives to bring hope and joy to underprivileged children in five projects in the surrounding areas of Hue, Vietnam.

Spring is a time of new beginnings and we believe that education is the key to a brand new start.  This April, Le Hoang Foundation wants to focus on the importance of education to the children in the surrounding villages of Hue.  With the aid of An Hoa’s Buddhist Family, we distributed books, pens, and clothes to 130 students at An Hoa Pagoda.  While at the Center for Handicapped Children in Thuy Bieu, we delivered basic daily essentials, clothes, and school supplies to over 70 children with disabilities.  Under the name, Lop Hoc Tinh Thuong, meaning classroom of love, located at Kim Duc Pagoda, underprivileged children hunger for an education.   At this school, all the administrators and teachers are volunteers and students are given free tuition.   As a gift to the students, we gave their classroom a makeover with new desks, chairs, blackboards, and electric fans.

One of our favorite projects in Hue has always been Mai Linh Boarding House, located in the Dong Con Duc Me Vo Nhiem.  The boarding house is home to 19 ethnic minority girls that longs for a formal education in the city of Hue.  We try to encourage these young ladies with annual visit and gifts such as books, musical instruments, bicycles, clothes, sandals, and school supplies.  At Phu Thuong Orphanage and School, we delivered a computer, a dining table, blankets, mosquito nets, school supplies, and desk lamps to 40 anxiously waiting students, ages 12-18.  With these essential supplies, we hope to encourage the students to excel in their quest for knowledge.

In the Year of the Dragon, Le Hoang Foundation focuses on education and giving underprivileged children of Hue, Vietnam something to smile about.  However, we could not have achieved this task without the generous donations from our friends, family and benefactors of the Le Hoang Foundation and the dedication of our volunteers.  We would like to thank Drs. Kim Hoa Lam and Derek Nguyen (New York, USA), Mr. Edd Basilio (Virginia, USA) along with Ms. Lan Quach (Hanoi, VN),  Ms. Quynh Nhu Nguyen and Mr. Long Tran (Hue, VN) for working tirelessly with the orphanages and vendors on this year’s projects.  On behalf of the children of Hue, we want to thank all of you for your generous contributions and continuous support.
